desk work / planet gunganap
Planet Gunganap is located in a dual-star solar system that Tragnark (myself) is from. On this planet are many life forms with cultures and history. I had the fortune of working with a couple toy companies to bring two of the inhabitants to life: “Golem” and “Cait the Alchemist”.
The moment the prototyping process was underway, I wrote a one page story about Golem and created a map of its discovery location. Both were included in packaging when you bought it.
Notes to the sculptor to add additional texturing and battle scars from the civil war that tore apart the kingdom of Soledad.
The packaging was designed to be the self-folding tesseract Golem was awakened from at the top of the step pyramid.
This is the paint master I created to send to the factory to be made into the production model.
Before mailing the paint master out, I took a few pictures of Golem outside, imagining it was a grass field from Planet Gunganap.
The production models showed up in the mail a few weeks later with an alternate color way. They did a subtle deco pass over the gray chest-face and red on the limbs to make it look distressed, which was a nice touch.
“Black-on-Black” alternate color way.
This is Cait the Alchemist
She is able to focus powers of 6 elements from Planet Gunganap (liquid, plasma, foam, gamma, gas, ?) through the third eye in the front of her head, and expel them through a giant protrusion and opening on the back of her skull.
Model notes and revisions. Gotta make sure her cranium is bulbous in just the right way.
These were quick sketches of hand angles and knee/hip joint locations to rig a skeleton to while modeling phase was wrapping up. It was also being used for some animation tests.
This is her pet bird, Bungie. Bungie da Bird. I like saying that over and over. Haha.
The packaging was designed to show the magical connection between Cait and Bungie.
